Longbows were popularly used during this period as they could easily pierce a soldier’s armor from a range of 250 yards (231 m). Archers became an indispensable part of every army for it allowed forces to remain at a safe distance while their arrows shattered enemy formations and inflict heavy casualties.

It became very beneficial that a law was passed on 1252, mandating all men aged 15 to 60 to undergo archery training. This initiative not only served as physical conditioning but also played a crucial role in defending English troops during conflicts.
