It is said that the Cordilleran weaving tradition is a way of preserving the harmonious relationship between man and nature. As the thread traverses through the loom, creating unique geometric patterns on the cloth, our ancestors communed with the spirits of their hopes and dreams for the future. Like other forms of art, weaving has evolved into a form of expression, incorporating bright colors and modern patterns into the fabric.

Style Isle, in collaboration with Ren Faire PH, will be hosting a unique hands-on experience in the art of traditional weaving. Weave Art Workshops were created to inspire the love and appreciation of the art and craft of weaving as seen in our cultures and cultures around the world.

Facilitating this demonstration is Twinkle Ferraren, a self-taught artist whose advocacy and passion in learning about our Philippine Textiles and weaves, has brought her to visiting and learning from the different indigenous and artisan communities around the country – from the T’boli Dreamweavers in Lake Sebu, the Mangyans of Mindoro to the Tingguians of Abra.

She learned weaving throughout her journey in meeting and immersing with the different communities, also taking weaving classes in New York City in 2015.

As she found joy in learning weaving, she shares this weave art workshop created to inspire the love and appreciation of the art and craft of weaving as seen in our cultures and cultures around the world.

Joining Twinkle in this workshop are Master Weavers from Cordillera. Ms. Catherine Ekid Domigyay and Ms. Jane Cunnin Kis-ing who will be demonstrating The Pedal Loom (Tilar), a traditional tool to make masterpieces that you can wear or drape around your homes like wall decor, mats and some indigenous or artisanal accessories.

Frame and Basic Weaving will be taught by Ms Jezica Duculan and Ms. Twinkle Ferraren.
