RFPH 2025 Day 2 Theme: Greek Gods VS Mortals

For Day 2 of the faire, weโ€™re diving into an epic theme: Greek Gods vs. Mortals!

Will you embody a powerful god, immortal and mighty, with dominion over nature and human life? Perhaps you have your own vision of how these divine beings might appear if they walked the earth today. Or, will you take on the role of a brave mortal, defying fate and standing against the will of the gods? Heroes who carve their own destinies, challenging the divine order.

Whether you choose to portray the gods from ancient legends or the heroic mortals from epic tales, let the grandeur of our venue transport you to a time when gods walked among us. Feel free to bring your own twistโ€”be a mortal hero-turned-demigod, or create an original god or goddess of your own making.

Are you excited for this theme? Because we are! Each dayโ€™s theme fuels our creativity, and we can’t wait to start crafting! We encourage you to let those creative juices flowโ€”whether itโ€™s designing your outfit or crafting the perfect accessories. Letโ€™s bring back the spirit of craftsmanship to the community! The History of Faires

๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—ฎ ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—™๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ?

A Renaissance faire is an outdoor event that recreates the atmosphere of the Renaissance and Medieval periods, with a focus on life in the 16th century. Fun fact: the very first Ren Faire is credited to the 1963 Renaissance Pleasure Faire in California, USA! This event came about during a time when many in the film industry, affected by the suspicion and repression of communism, were struggling to find work. Phyllis and Ron Patterson were the visionaries behind it, with Phyllis hoping to inspire young people by bringing historyโ€™s greatest themes to life.
Historically, fairesโ€”then known as Medieval or Charter fairesโ€”were religious celebrations lasting two to three days. Over time, as merchants gathered in church courtyards, these events became bustling marketplaces, blending commerce with cultural and social activities. Performers like jugglers, magicians, dancing bears, and mystery plays helped to draw crowds, making the fairs not just about business but also about entertainment. Merchants would often team up with these entertainers to attract more customers to their stalls.
The success of the 1963 Renaissance Pleasure Faire inspired the rise of many similar events, shaping the Ren Faire into what it is today. Though some still use the term “Medieval Faire,” most have gravitated toward “Renaissance Faire” or simply “Ren Faire,” as the Medieval period is often called the Dark Ages. Some Ren Faires stick to historical accuracy, while others embrace fantasy, featuring fairies, magical creatures, and themed days for interactive fun.
Here at Ren Faire PH, we strive to create an authentic Ren Faire experience while proudly incorporating our own Filipino culture and history. Our goal is not only to immerse our audience in the world of medieval and Renaissance life but also to bridge the gap in understanding and appreciation of Philippine culture and history.

It is said that archery dates back to the Ancient Stone Era, where hunters and warriors wielded the bow for its specific purpose. Over time, the skill rose to prominence during the Medieval Age.
Longbows were popularly used during this period as they could easily pierce a soldierโ€™s armor from a range of 250 yards (231 m). Archers became an indispensable part of every army for it allowed forces to remain at a safe distance while their arrows shattered enemy formations and inflict heavy casualties.
It became very beneficial that a law was passed on 1252, mandating all men aged 15 to 60 to undergo archery training. This initiative not only served as physical conditioning but also played a crucial role in defending English troops during conflicts.

We have heard your eagerness regarding our Day One theme. We offer this post in hopes that it may give discernment and enlightenment to the weary minds of our travelers.
As we all know, the Philippines is home to different ethnolinguistic groups with their own distinctive clothing traditions. While we actively encourage the celebration of the diversity of Filipino culture, a single guideline that sufficiently covers the scope of these cultural nuances is, at the moment, beyond our purview.
Thus, if it be your desire to adhere to our theme but are unsure where to begin, the Queen offers this gentle guidance: Embark on an intimate journey to seek the wise elders of your family on the rich, storied history of your ancestry. In time, said stories shall be yours to share with the people across the realm.
The path may be yours to undertake but know it will unveil the answers to the questions you seek. May the light of the past illuminate your path forward.
Ultimately, would it not be nice to have a glimpse of what the 15th century Philippines would look like through the garments we wear? That being said, while we encourage dressing according to our daily themes, it is merely a suggestion, and your comfort at the faire should be included in your priority when choosing your garb.

Why is Pre-colonial Philippines our Day 1 theme?
At Ren Faire PH, we encourage our dear adventurers to immerse themselves in the history attached to the Renaissance faires as we believe that these faires are heavily inspired by historical re-enactment and performances of the past.

With that being said, we should also connect and educate our audience about our own culture and history. Allow us to reconnect to who we are, relearn our own stories, and reveal our beautiful history to the world.
